Back in town for holidays after living overseas and the Y has been such a blessing to my time. The childcare is huge! The glass windows helped me (a SAHM + I don’t take my baby to any daycare) let go of any fear of what could be going on. Nobody’s perfect and dealing with lots of children can be SUPER hard but Ms Cynthia always has a smile on her face and a kind demeanor. The ones who watch the kids are never on their phones and very attentive. I appreciate that more than anyone will know. Secondly, the sauna has been such a tool for my pregnancy as it has alleviated so many “growing pains”. It is NOT coed which is a relief. I love the little chats you can squeeze in with the women coming from aquatics. So sweet. And lastly, Aimee from the gymnastics program has been an incredible teacher for our son! He started the winter gymnastics still jumping one foot at a time and I am so happy to say he’s officially jumping with two feet lol I know silly mom moment but he’s only two and it’s so fun to watch him be excited and learn so much! Was a super cool way to keep him entertained and when my husband could - he would be the one to take him which made my husband create such fond memories. One last thing, the women who keep the women’s locker room tidy don’t get enough credit. The one I see a lot is Ms Wendy… what an angel. She deserves a raise. She does a majority of the work herself and doesn’t complain once. I think it would help if people wouldn’t be so wet coming from aquatics/shower/steam room, but she is always in there making sure it’s dry. Incredible. Everyone is always so kind and I have nothing negative to say. I will definitely be coming back to sign up when we visit my family next year for our extended time home.

I signed my daughter up for swimming and I liked the place. I stayed there and got a subscription. My daughter has already learned to swim and is at level 4. Her swimming teachers, although very young and professional, know what they are doing and the staff is very kind and friendly. The facilities are comfortable and safe. My wife loves going to the gym and I go to the pools with my daughter, so I recommend it.

I usually don’t have any issues when I go to the YMCA in Waco. Today was my first day back in two months because I had a foot injury. I have another gym membership at another gym here in Waco, but I was using the YMCA primarily for the sauna. Today, I went to get on the stair master, and my feet immediately started hurting. I took off my shoes and got back on the stair master. I had thick Nike socks on! The other facility I go to does not have a problem with me doing this, so I didn’t think it would be a problem here. After about 5 minutes, I see this petite trainer with dark hair staring at me. After another minute, she gets on the stair master beside me and rudely says, “Put your shoes back on.” She didn’t ask why or what the reason was for me having my shoes off or anything. If this is a YMCA rule, believe me when I say…I have no problem following it, but it’s how you say it!!! I immediately went to the front desk and filled out the paperwork to cancel my membership. As a woman of color, I will not be talked to in that manner nor will I spend my hard earned money on any facility where trainers don’t know how to properly speak to people.
