Bell Roth Park

A nice looking park surrounded by residential buildings. Our first visit was less than great. The parking lot is a row of spots. You can pull out into the street from the door you're in. The few times we've been here, we were the only vehicle, we backed in, and only used one spot. Taking the dog for a walk was eye opening, there was random piles of dog poo in the grass adding to the trashy look from the refuse. It's not difficult to pick up dog poo and dispose of it properly. Worse than that there was human feces in the grass right off the sidewalk going through the park. Sadly, there were small alcohol bottles (shooters) scattered all around the lawn by the parking lot. I counted 13 just in that area, and I could see more thrown about. There was also trash on the ground throughout the park. It looked like no one had been around to empty the trash bins either. Today, we are back at the park. We are waiting to meet some friends who live down the street. While we were waiting, a member of the park staff pulled in front of our RV, and honked his horn to get our attention. He wouldn't get out of his vehicle like other parks and rec staffers (at other parks) we've talked to. He rudely told us that we can't be parked there. We asked why not, there's no sign. He pointed at a sign near the end of the lot that says, "No Overnight RV Parking". We told him it's daytime. He told us we can't park there and he has to call the cops. This guy had a bad tone and was almost yelling at us. We told him not to call the cops, that we will move. He told us we'd better not be there when he gets back. He pulled away saying something we couldn't hear. We moved our RV to the street, right next to the (empty) lot and waited to see what would happen when he came back. He did not return. Other staff came back and took down the "No Overnight RV Parking" sign. They replaced it with two signs. One that says no overnight parking, violators will be towed at owner's expense, and another that says "No RV Parking". The few experiences we've had here have left us feeling excluded and unwelcome to this supposed first-class park. Staff did live up to one part of their mission statement. We will be leaving this park with a memorable experience, albeit a bad one. Maybe if we had gotten written permission from the executive director we wouldn't have been treated poorly. As an RV owner, it would be nice to know what's the big deal with RV's in parks during the daytime. As long as the rules are being respected, there is no reason why people who own RV's should be discriminated against this way. I am pretty sure we will not be trying to come to this park or any other Highland Hills parks again. I'd rather not be treated disrespectfully.

Nice during the day, but late after dark, there's a lot of sketchy activity. Gun shots in a neighboring complex, and a car randomly pulled up behind me, blocking me in my parking spot for a few seconds. The police seemed to respond pretty quickly, but I definitely would avoid this place at night.
